Peter Baldwin, Engineer

 

My great-grandfather was Peter Baldwin, an engineer, 31 years old when he died; my grandfather was 6 years old.

The family story is that Peter's wife, my great grandmother, woke in a great fright in that night, and was sure something had happened.

Peter Baldwin married my maternal grandfather's sister, Jane Grahem Wilmott, and I have been able to obtain copies of Peter's application to marry to his captain. I also have a copy of his full service record, covering promotions, health, general conduct, the ships he served on, etc.

In the summer of 2000, an HMS Captain researcher I was in touch with was in contact with another researcher, who in turn had been contacted by Barbara Balfe. The two researchers put Barbara and me in contact, and we discovered we were fifth cousins.
