John Hermitage - Royal Marines

John Hermitage was born on 5th December 1837 in Gravesend, to Joseph and Mary.

On the 18th October 1868, whilst he was a Private in the Royal Marines, he married Mary Catherine Dunk at St Mark's Church, Kent. Their first child, Mary was born that year, and the second, Amelia Ann, was born on 7th August 1870 - with the Captain foundering exactly one month later, John was never to see his second child.
