George H Payne

My great-grandfather on my mother's side was George H Payne, and was still a young man when he died in HMS Captain.

His wife, Rose, was expecting a child at the time of the father's death, and my grandfather (their only child) was born five months later on the 4th February 1871; he was also named George.

As a child myself, my parents would take me to see the memorial in St Paul's Cathedral.
