Portsmouth - Eastney Methodist Central Hall

This memorial came into the possession of Portsmouth Museums and Records Service in 1970, and it is not clear why it was removed from the building. The building has a chequered history, starting out as a corrugated `shed'. In 1921 a purpose built brick building was erected on the rest of the site, and the `shed' became the Sunday School. The brick building was itself replaced around 1999 by the present modern church building.

The plaque measure 780mm wide x 1035mm high x 110mm deep; it weighs 120kg. The white marble is set on what looks like a black marble slab.

(As at autumn 2011, the memorial is on display in the exhibition 'No Place like Pompey' at the City Museum, open every day 10.00-5.00 except Mondays.  There is information on the website www.portsmouthmuseums.co.uk under the exhibitions tab at the top left.)
