Survivors Photo Card

Possibly a fund-raising device. The photos are not those of the group photo taken of the survivors that was published in Arthur Hawkey's book, but possibly individual photos taken after the disaster.

The card was provided by Margaret Fosker, the great-granddaughter of Edmund Powell, and was in the possession of her grandmother, Edmund's great-granddaughter. Margaret says the picture is two and a half inches by four inches, the back is quite  plain but it looks as though the picture was affixed to the card. Margaret has identified the sailors thus -

May - Ellis

Walker - Werry - Bride

Harvey - Tregenna - Herd - Heard

Lawrence - Freeman - Dryburgh - Tomlinson

Merryman - Kernan - Grange

Gribble - Saunders

(Since Margaret Fosker provided the original copy of this card, this has now been replaced by a clearer one, provided by  by the family of Marianne Whittaker, whose forebears (the Gedye family of the Plymouth area) have an unknown connection with HMS Captain, probably by working on the construction of the ship. The family would be pleased to hear from anyone who can provide information on this connection.)
