Those involved in the building of HMS Captain

The four most men closely involved with the Captain’s short life, have been described earlier – Captain Cowper Coles, the designer of the ship; Edward Reed, Chief Constructor of the Navy; Captain Hugh Burgoyne, Captain of HMS Captain; and Sir Hugh Childers, First Lord of the Admiralty.

Others involved in the story include Sir Rob Spencer Robinson as Controller of the Navy; F K Barnes, Assistant Constructor of the Navy; and Nathaniel Barnaby, also Assistant Constructor until taking over from Reed when he stepped down in July 1870.
